Contracting the virus.

There are various ways to contracting a virus. You don’t have to be watching porn either. It’s easy to get and hard to get rid of. Once you got it.

Its easy to spot whether you have a virus or not. Do you get pop ups on your screen telling you to buy something, or naughty pics of women? If your PC used to run fast and now its slower then molasses, this is usually a huge sign. Some of your programs are not working properly, they keep closing out or making you restart it. Viruses will make your PC shutdown and move by itself. The worst symptom of all are those blue screen errors of death. It is somewhat hard to come back from a blue screen of death.

The clean up process.

Boot your computer to safe mode. Its easier to work in and usually gets rid of all the viruses. Take out all temp internet files, cache and cookies. This is done by using internet properties. Do a search for prefetch files in the run box and also move these folders to the trash.

Remove unwanted programs.

In the add/remove list located in the control panel, uninstall other programs. Sometimes the virus comes in on a program that was installed. This is another trick to help free up hard drive space and will help your computer run faster. When uninstalling old programs, unused registry entries will be removed.

Full scan of PC.

Secondly run a good anti-virus scan. This will work better in safe mode too. At this time leave the computer running only the scan. It will use less resources and get rid of all viruses. Once the scan is finished use the given button to quarantine all files.

  1. Or, you could just switch to a decent OS like Linux or Mac OSX. You don’t even have to buy a Mac. There are plenty of sites showing you how to quickly and easily convert Windows systems to the Apple OSX. The free iAntivirus available for OSX does a fine job of protecting from the very few virus attacks you are likely to see. Then the built-in firewall in Linux and OSX does fine jobs, too.

Staying with windows just doesn’t make sense when better alternatives are available.

  2. Gosh, reminds me of the hassle I had with Microsoft Windows and how annoying it was. Since I use GNU/Linux I’ve never had a single virus and mind that: we Linux users don’t even have Antivirus software installed!

I won’t mention all the other benefits Linux gives me over Windows: you probably don’t care anyway. But IF your are open to new things and want to get out of the virus/spam/malware hell > install Linux!

  3. “Viruses will make your PC shutdown and move by itself. ”
…Move by itself?:)) I never experienced such severe symptoms;)

  4. I’ve seen it happen a couple of times. You’ve never experienced your computer popping up windows, or screens jumping? Just about all who have been on the Internet has experienced a popup window from time to time, although not all are viruses, when one does hit it can do more than just pop windows. I’ve seen them open and close programs, prevent mouse clicks, and many other things that control the PC. It’s best to use a virus protection and update regularly.

  5. We were doing our thesis that time when we encountered the type of virus that writes something on our paper. Funny thing was when we’re on break it just spontaneously type “i know what you did last summer”. It’s a pretty naughty virus, good thing it didn’t do bad stuff with our files. Probably just made to scare people.

  6. Viruses can do almost anything. Computers are just machines and do what they are told, so it’s not that impossible to think that a virus can take over a computer and wreak havoc on it. It’s always good to run the latest anti-virus protection and to make sure to only access files that you know are safe. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Why do the other commenters say that Mac or Linux are virus-proof? Is it just a matter of those operating systems being less popular, so therefore there are fewer viruses written for them? Or are they inherently more safe?
