What To Know About Health Insurance
Many people today are without health insurance, and those that are lucky enough to have it are seeing rising costs and lower benefits. Obama wants to make health care affordable to all in the US, and wants to make sure that every American is covered with some sort of health coverage. However, this may be some time away still even though debates about this topic have already started on capital hill. While people are still trying to figure out if they can or can’t afford health insurance, and whether or not the federal government will help operate this new plan, we’ll take at some of the points in today’s health insurance system and what to know about health insurance.
Quality health insurance is expensive, and sometimes people simply cannot afford the premiums. Other times, it is because they left a job that provided insurance coverage and their new one does not. Pre-existing conditions excluded other folks from coverage by some carriers as well. No matter what reason a person doesn’t have insurance, an unexpected or serious health problem can significantly affect your financial situation at any time.
If you are without health insurance coverage at this time, take comfort in the fact that all is not lost. There are a handful of options out there that can help.
Research:
It is well worth your time to do a little looking around for low-income government-funded offers and programs–such as Medicare or Medicaid–for which you may qualify (note that the guidelines may vary from state to state).
Search for area community health centers and learn more about their offered services. Many provide routine and diagnostic care for free, or at a very low cost.
Children of low-income families, generally in a family of four with income up to $34,100 a year, may find coverage under state-sponsored programs. ALL Kids (Alabama), Minnesota Department of Human Services (Minnesota), CHIP-Children’s Medicaid (Texas), The Delaware Healthy Children Program (Delaware) and the Healthy Connections Plans (South Carolina) are just a few of the many out there.
If you live with your parents or are supported by family members, you may be able to get coverage under their policy, but make sure to check all details before changing any existing plans.
It could be beneficial to consider your specific health issues individually, and look for discounts or service alternatives.
For example, for dental care, call local dental schools where services–performed by students while supervised by licensed dental personnel–cost much less than those in a regular dental office.
Pharmaceutical companies sometimes offer assistance programs for prescriptions, and you can receive free screenings at charity or disease awareness functions, for everything from heart problems to family planning and ethnicity-prominent illnesses.
Health care premium discounts may also be available if tied to your auto, home or life insurance. In fact, some companies offer significant discounts for multi-insurance plans.
Unfortunately, some medical providers charge the uninsured rates that are significantly higher than those charged to privately insured patients. But, if you ask and are a good negotiator, you may be able to work out a discount for cash payments, or agree to installment payments whether the costs are discounted or not.
Lastly, consider taking a short-term health insurance coverage policy if you are between jobs, or a high deductible policy where even though out-of-pocket medical costs are usually higher, it will protect against devastating medical bills.
There may be obstacles out there, but there are many options that can provide a great deal of relief.

One of the many problems we have to face right now. Didn’t I hear of health insurance that just covers major issues and leave off the minor things resulting in much lower premiums?
Thanks for the good info…..Regards.
Getting the best health insurance coverage even at low cost is not difficult if one is ready to learn and follow what it takes. It is all about information and determination to succeed.
One of the many problems with are current health care system is that those who can afford health care have to a pay extra for there health care because of the people who can’t, that are not paying there bills so the hospitals and insurance company’s have to recoup their costs. because of this problem we can not as a country afford to let a our health care system continue on the path it is on we need some sort of basic health care option that is available free to everyone, because then the people who can’t afford health care could get the cheaper preventative care instead of just emergency care.
Everybody’s been talking about the good and bad of the public health care option. It’s a big relief to find some information that can actually help us out today! thank you for the post and addressing the subject of finding affordable health care in this day and age.
I really like your post. I want to say that the state should have the complete responsibility of giving its people free health care services and they can do it by putting a decent of money that they usually gain from taxation in this sector that will not only make people healthy and happy but also economically a sustainable. Thanks for posting.
