What To Know About LED Light Technology

LED light technology has come a long way, and we use it now in a lot of every day items, but what is LED light technology and how does it work. The following are some useful information on what to know about LED light technology.

A LED light is composed of two semiconductors. When an electrical charge is applied, electrons move between the semiconductors and light is emitted. This produces less heat than a traditional bulb that uses a filament wire inside a vacuum tube. LED lights are much less fragile than glass bulbs and can usually survive being dropped with no damage. This combined with efficiency are their two major advantages.

LED lights can be used for lots of items, but some of the more popular and well-known are TVs and monitors made with LED light technology.  The following are some insights on what types of LED technology are being used right now and what to look for in LED products.

ED LCD TVs are your usual Liquid Crystal Display television with the addition of the cutting-edge LED back-lighting technology. and of course, new technologies mean quite a big introductory price. But Samsung wanted to attend to the needs of a greater market so the 81F Series of LED LCD TV was their first attempt to provide a mass-market model.

Sony chose not to join the price bracket of the two brands; their 46 inch KDL-46XBR8 sells at $5000 while the 55 inch version is at $2000 more. This makes the Sony models appear to be exceptionally expensive than LED LCD HDTVs from other brands.

However, they differ not only in price but also the LED back-lighting technology used. Although all three uses hundred of LEDs positioned behind the screen, Sony uses a three-color LED set-up while LG and Samsung use white LEDs on their screens.

So which LED light technology is better? Is it Samsung’s white light LED backlight or the three-colored technology of Sony?

If you are considering saving your $2000-3000 cash, opt to get the Samsung one and you will still get an exceptional LED LCD HDTV. After all, it is Samsung; you can be assured that you’ll get what is best.

Also, Vizio, which has just taken over the number two spot (over Sony) as the largest plasma HDTV supplier in the United States (4th Qtr. 2008), has just announced that they will be discontinuing plasma production in the next few weeks of this writing. I believe that speaks volumes for the future of HDTV.

Hot burning arc lamp that must be replaced every few years, there isn’t the high cost of routine maintenance either. The Samsung LED DLP TV is also a ‘Green’ device, so there is substantial savings realized over the life of the HDTV.
