Kumo Is Now Bing - What To Know About Bing Search

Kumo Is Now Bing What To Know About Bing SearchThere has been lots of talk over the past few months about new search engines coming out, some old ones getting updates, and Microsoft still trying to get into the search market.  Well their latest attempt is now live at http://bing.com.  This new Microsoft search engine was originally called Kumo, but Kumo is now Bing and the site is live for the world to enjoy.

What To Know About Bing:

  • Live.com - It is very closely related to Live.com, Microsoft’s last version of search, but has some new features, new UI, as well as more data to the user finger tips and make suggestions to help the user find what they want.
  • Tip bar - Similar to a tool tip, is a pop feature that opens when a user rolls over a link and displays data about what the link is, some text on the page, as well as other links on the page that may be helpful.  This is a good feature as the user can get more details about the page without even having to click on it or go directly to the page.
  • Interface - Doing searches like travel for hotels, will not only bring up some sites, but depending on what data is put in the search may even be able to find actual rates and display them directly on the page. This means that a person looking for flight to New York on a certain day will get some prices right in the search results without having to go to another site to the flight search.
  • Suggestions - In addition to links on a page, Bing will provide suggestions as to what others who have search for the same thing also searched for.  Plus, they give filtering tools to make it even easier to find what a user is searching for.
  • Links - With the overall of the engine, Microsoft focused on content and providing good data. The new Bing search has really good data and the results are extremely relevant and useful, which makes using the search very efficient and effective to use.

With the new features, improved UI, and updated data results, WhatToKnow.org recommends using Bing.com as the search engine of choice right now.

  1. Bing is on a tear. Many in my office are not attached to it.

  2. Google have a far superior search technology and an ever-growing network of sites complimented by a very vast array of tools. It is going to take a miracle or a major stuff up on Google’s part for anyone else in the market to take them down.

Bing meanwhile do have the money, network and tools to be competitive and grow their market share. I think Yahoo! would be crazy not to team up with Bing and if this does happen I believe Bing will be much better placed to cut in to Google’s market share. Additionally, should Bing develop an equivalent search technology or superior search technology anything is possible now isn’t it.

  3. Oh, I forgot to add, I am really surprised we haven’t seen Windows come with a search function built in to the desktop, unless there’s one in Windows 7?
